Save the Pink House

The Pink House is a pretty pink house set in the beautiful marshes in Newbury, MA that has captured the imagination of many. As putting it into words why it's so evocative is tricky, many artists such as myself, and my friend Rebecca Klementovich, have picked up our paintbrushes to do it. These recent studies were from our visit on a blustery day in November. As artists, we want to do our part to save the Pink House.
The Pink House looks good at any time of year, and from any vantage point most likely because of its spectacular setting on the marsh. It brings to mind our forefathers, and mothers, who lived in nature and made a home in it unlike us who often live surrounded by other homes, people, cars and noise. Some of us can't even see the stars at night. Here there's an expanse of natural beauty, no matter what the time of day, that seems highlighted by the structure in its midst.
There is a myth that people love that it was a spite house. It actually wasn't, but that thought that it had been built for a jilted wife out of spire caught people's attention. In 1925 the Pink House was bought by Gertrude W. Cutter from the widow Abbie K. Little. Fast forward, in 2011 it was purchased by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife/Parker River National Wildlife Refuge with the surrounding acreage, you can read the complete history here. Now they want to tear it down. We don't want that to happen.

It's hard to explain to people who aren't visually inclined how stunning this spot is, but as it's won the most Instagramable spot on the North Shore many years running obviously many people do understand its beauty and relevance to our area. Diana Di Zoglio, State Senator states:
"The Pink House is a local treasure and landmark that brings great beauty, history and culture to Plum Island, attracting locals, visitors and tourists alike. I am committed to working alongside our local, state and federal partners to ensure this beloved landmark is preserved for future generations to cherish."
Please join us in our wish to preserve the Pink House. It's in good shape and if we could put our heads together we are sure that we could come up with a solution. LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD
